Octavia Spencer: I’m Grateful Success Didn’t Happen at 22

Octavia Spencer arrives at the 2013 Oscars. (Gregg DeGuire/WireImage)Octavia Spencer worked in Hollywood for 16 years before she became a household name.
She appeared in "E.R.," movies like "Big Momma's House," and many, many more TV shows and films before landing the role in "The Help" that won her the Best Supporting Actress Oscar last year. The surprising thing is that she wouldn't have had it any other way.
"I think [success] came at the right time," Spencer tells omg!. "I think success happens when it's supposed to and when you can appreciate it. I am grateful that it didn't happen for me at 22 or 23. I would've been foolish enough to think that we're all entitled to it, instead of it being the divine blessing that it is."
The 42-year-old explains that the movie -- in which she portrays Minny, a woman taking care of the homes and children of white families in pre-Civil Rights Era Jackson, Mississippi -- brought her much more than accolades.
"I'm still good friends with Viola [Davis] and Emma [Stone], Jessica [Chastain] -- we were a tight-knit group," she says, adding that her preparation for the role also left her with a different outlook on life. "I realized that my perspective about my place in the world needed to change. I come from humble beginnings -- very humble beginnings -- but Minny, her beginnings were more humble than mine. And she didn't feel entitlement. She just wanted the best life for her kids, and it made me realize that it wasn't about the glass being half empty or half full, but that you owned the glass. Minny didn't own the glass. I've always owned the glass, and I didn't know that, and getting ready for that role put it all into perspective, and that's why I think it was good that success happened for me at a later date, because I got it; I got the memo."
Last year, while all this change was going on, Spencer also made a big decision about her health after she heard about a product called Sensa, which is a weight-loss supplement that when sprinkled over food is supposed to trick the body into thinking it's full.

"I just joined the 40s club, and I thought if this product will help me lose weight at my own pace, in my own way, and I don't have to follow a crazy, restrictive meal plan, then it's something that I need to do," Spencer says.
At the same time, the actress decided she needed to step up her workout.
"I like to eat, and so I know that I have to be physical at some point, or I'm going to be just a little soft marshmallow," she notes.
The combination of exercise and eating less has already paid off big. Spencer unveiled a 20-pound weight loss in February, and she's not finished yet. She jokingly sings "Everyday I'm sprinkling," to the tune of the line "Everyday I'm shuffling" in LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem."

"As a kid, I was always very thin, and I kind of didn't know that I was skinny," she notes. "I look back at pictures now, and I think, 'Who are you?' I started really gaining weight at around 18 or 19, and then 10 pounds turns into 20. The freshman 15 is what started it for me."
While her dress size is smaller now, Spencer says her red carpet style has remained consistent. She continues to sport dresses designed by the Japanese-born Tadashi Shoji when she steps out for fancy fetes.
"I love a classic look, which is why I love Tadashi," she raves. "I gravitate to whatever looks good on me and whatever maakes me feel sexy. I can't say that that has changed because of weight loss."
The next time you see Spencer at a Hollywood soiree, she just might be being honored for her latest role, in the independent film "Fruitvale." The film is based on the true story of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old man who was shot to death by the Bay Area Rapid Transit Police Department in San Francisco in 2009, sparking outrage, because he was found to be unarmed.
Spencer, who plays Grant's mother, notes that the project was an important one for her.
"The mentality of how we treat one another needs to be examined, especially how we treat our men of color," she shares. "I have young nephews that would be contemporaries of Oscar Grant, and I thought that if by doing this film it would somehow cause people to assess their behavior -- no matter what side of the issue they're on -- if it would help them assess their behavior and curtail their behavior in some way and how we deal with another, then maybe I've done my job."
The A-list actress's upcoming projects also include a children's book that comes out in the fall, as well as a Lifetime movie, "Call Me Crazy," about mental illness. The flick, which airs April 20, is a series of five short films featuring actresses such as Jennifer Hudson and Melissa Leo. Spencer stars in the segment directed by, of course, another friend from "The Help," Bryce Dallas Howard.

Rosario Dawson Heats Things Up in GQ Spread

Rosario Dawson shows off curves in GQ Rosario Dawson is showing off some serious curves and sex appeal in the latest edition of GQ Magazine.
Everyone knew Dawson had incredible talents as a writer, actress, and a singer but 33-year-old New York native needs to add modeling to her extensive resume.
The Daily Mail writes:
The beauty – who can currently be seen in ex-beau Danny Boyle’s latest film Trance – is a sight to behold in a series of lascivious poses.
Rosario recalls the moment she knew she could be a star in the magazine: ‘[As a teen], I took a picture with my friend in a bikini. Around then, I didn’t have it because I didn’t want it. But I fit the clothes well, you know?’
Dawson and Boyle have remained close friends despite their recent split.
In fact, the pair have been happy to work together to promote the film and spend time together in the cities they’ve visited on the promotional carousel.
The black and white photos in the men’s magazine feature the curvy beauty with perfectly tousled bedroom hair, come hither eyes, and enough curves to where Drake’s lyrics “you looking bad, girl for goodness sakes/ you with all those curves and me without no brakes” seems to magically start playing out of nowhere whenever you look at the photos.
We’re not sure how Boyle manages to remain friends with the gorgeous and talented star without wanting to bang his head against the wall a few times, but hey – more power to him. What a strong man you are Danny Boyle.

Nick Lachey Says Kim Kardashian Used Him For Fame – Get in Line

Nick Lachey Says Kim Kardashian Used Him For Fame – Get in Line!

Kim Kardashian exposed Nick Lachey movie date to cameras for fame If Nick Lachey wants Kim Kardashian to own up to her paparazzi and fame obsessed ways and admit that she wouldn’t be famous without his help, he’ll have to step in line behind Kris Humphries, Reggie Bush and of course Ray-J – who is reminding us all of that with his latest song “Hit it First.”
According to Nick Lachey, Kim tipped off the paparazzi to their movie date back in 2006 in order to sky rocket herself to fame and fortune.
The Daily Mail writes:
When asked whether tabloid pictures of Nick and Kim on one of their early dates marked the start of Kim’s career, the 39-year-old singer said: ‘That’s one way to interpret it. Let’s just say this: We went to a movie. No one followed us there. Somehow, mysteriously, when we left, there were 30 photographers waiting outside.’
Nick went on to suggest that Kim had tipped off the paparazzi about the pair’s movie date on May 24, 2006.
‘There are certain ways to play this game, and some people play it well,’ he said in the May 2013 issue of Details.
‘She also had some help from that sex tape,’ the interviewer added, referring to Kim’s infamous video with rapper Ray J.
‘Yeah, well that was already in the can,’ said Nick.
Even Kimmy K herself claimed that it was the movie date night that turned her into the famous for who knows what socialite she is today:
‘It started when I went out on a date with Nick Lachey,’ Kim wrote in the 2010 book, Kardashian Konfidential. ‘Of course the paparazzi took pictures, because people were curious about who he was with.’
So the next night I was out with Paris Hilton,’ she continued. ‘We were in her car and the paparazzi started taking pictures. Usually they would shout, “Paris! Paris! Paris!”
‘[But] they started yelling “Kim! Kim! Kim!” I wanted to hide, and Paris and I just looked at each other and laughed.’
‘She said, “Whatever you do, just smile.” I thought, this is so weird, I don’t know what’s going on. It was surreal.’
Nick and Kim can say whatever they want but we all know that Kim is pretty much a glamorized, accidental porn star and most of the credit for her fame should go right to Brandy’s brother.
Her current boyfriend, Kanye West, said it himself during his verse on the song “Clique” where he rapped “My girl a superstar all from a home movie.”
Well in that case – Cue that corny but oh so true Ray J song!

Katherine Jackson Paranoid Michael’s Paternity Will Be Questioned

Katherine Jackson Paranoid Michael’s Paternity Will Be Questioned

Katherine Jackson paranoid about Michael Jackson paternity testimony Katherine Jackson and her legal team seem pretty paranoid about what Debbie Rowe’s testimony will be during the Jackson family’s wrongful death trial against AEG Live.
TMZ reported:
We’re told lawyers worry Debbie will testify Michael is NOT the biological father of Prince and Paris. TMZ broke the story back in 2009 … Michael indeed is not the biological father.
Debbie is on the witness list for both Katherine and AEG Live. AEG has taken Debbie’s deposition but — shockingly — we’ve learned AEG never asked Debbie a single question about paternity as it relates to MJ.
As for why Katherine’s lawyers are so interested in Debbie’s testimony … she’s the one who knows the most about MJ and the paternity, and they’re worried AEG may try to prove the kids don’t have any legal ties to Michael, which could torpedo their damage claim.
Katherine’s lawyers have already filed legal docs asking the judge to exclude any evidence of paternity. The judge has yet to rule on the motion.
Whether Michael is the biological father of Paris and Prince should not even be an issue for the courts because MJ still raised both of the children. It takes more than a sperm donation to qualify any man as a real father so that certainly shouldn’t be the main factor in defining a father either.
Either way, California laws are more than likely going to defend Michael as the father because Debbie was living with Michael when she gave birth. Under California law, that’s enough for MJ to be legally presumed as the children’s father.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Follows Lamar Odom in Charity Scam?

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Follows Lamar Odom in Charity Scam?

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar charity is a fraud Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the latest NBA star to be accused of a charity scam just a few weeks after Lamar Odom and his wife Khloe Kardashian were hit with the same accusations.
While the charity scam part may be similar, it seems like Jamaar’s hands are much cleaner than Lamar and Khloe’s because it seems as if the basketball legend truly had no idea that the charity was a fraud.
TMZ reports:
Julien’s Auctions claims it struck a deal to sell Abdul-Jabbar’s marquis memorabilia — championship rings, jerseys, the works.
Deborah Morales, Kareem’s manager and longtime personal friend, negotiated with Julien’s and — as part of the deal — she allegedly got them to donate $300K to the famed bballer’s Skyhook Foundation charity.
Julien’s says after it forked over the cash, it discovered Skyhook was not in the charity business at all. It was a front to pad the pockets of Skyhook’s mucky mucks … according to the lawsuit.
Julien’s wants Morales to return its $300k and punitive damages to boot.
The NBA icon and “Splash” contestant has not been listed as a defendant in the lawsuit but we’re sure the public will want to hear from him about the phony charity.
…Or perhaps everything will just blow over and be forgotten like in Khloe and Lamar’s case?

Peter Dinklage on Brangelina Diss

Peter Dinklage on Brangelina Diss; Beyoncé’s Business (Exclusive Pic)

Peter Dinklage and a bevy of beauties (Playboy)
Sorry, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Peter Dinklage has bigger thrones to capture than yours.
At least according to the "Game of Thrones" actor, who opens up in an hilarious new interview for Playboy about his career, Hollywood peers, and aspirations. Like his 2012 Golden Globe win for best supporting actor, where he claimed the prize for his turn as Tyrion Lannister on the cult HBO series.

Brangelina at the 2012 Golden Globes (Steve Granitz/WireImage)"I apparently brushed off Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on my way to the stage," he tells the mag. "When you're in that moment and you're about to accept an award and you have no idea what you're going to say, you don't notice that Brad and Angelina are reaching out to say hello."
[Related: What The "Game of Thrones" Cast Look Like Out Of Character]
While the actor didn't lose any sleep over it, his close pals were apparently mortified.
"All I saw was a sea of people I needed to get through," Dinklage explains. "Friends don't care about issues like dwarf tossing. They only care about 'Dude, you dissed Brangelina.'"
Brad and Angie may have to wait for a second shot, but a different A-lister did get a little love from Dinklage during his interview: Beyoncé.
[Related: Who Was Originally Slated for Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen]
Inspired by Bey's line of signature scents and how it allows her to "make a mint," he's thinking "this cologne could be my ticket to fortune."
"I have a friend -- not a dwarf -- who’s an alchemist of sorts," he shares. “He concocted a men’s cologne ... he gave me a bottle as a gift. I was thinking, we should totally put this on the market."
You have our blessing, Pete, but only if your marketing campaign resembles the amazing Playboy shot above -- which omg! is happy to offer a first look at.
Photographed while lounging amongst a bevy of beauties, the mag naturally had to ask Dinklage about his burgeoning status as a sex symbol.
"They'll say, 'Oh, he's sexy,' but women still go for guys who are 6'2," he concludes. "It's nice that people are thinking outside the box, but I don't believe any of it for a minute."

Don’t Cry for Margaret Thatcher

Ian McKellen: Don’t Cry for Margaret Thatcher

Sir Ian McKellen (Jim Spellman / WireImage)Sir Ian McKellen is taking issue with the Iron Lady, even in her death.
The knighted actor and "Lord of the Rings" star took to his blog to share some thoughts on the death of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

"The official obituaries have been, as often happens, partial in both senses: sympathetic and incomplete," McKellen wrote, joining a substantial chorus of British voices indifferent over the leader's passing.
McKellen references a piece of legislation called Section 28, which he felt Thatcher pursued to quiet a growing movement for gay rights in the U.K.
"Lest we forget, this nasty, brutish and short measure of the third Thatcher administration, was designed to slander homosexuality, by prohibiting state schools from discussing positively gay people and our 'pretended family relations,'" he continued.
McKellen reflects on how she voted against the measurement's repeal, calling it "her final contribution to U.K. politics. She dies too early to oppose Parliament's inevitable acceptance of same-gender marriage."
On a lighter note, McKellen did share an interesting anecdote about a reception he attended at 10 Downing Street (the Prime Minister's residence) while Thatcher was in office.
"I was the last to leave, alone with Mr and Mrs Thatcher ... she said flirtatiously: 'Mr McKellen, I like your suit. Where did you get it?'"
He responded, "'It's Japanese, Prime Minister.' She grimaced like a nanny: 'Naughty, naughty!' and closed the double doors in my face."
It's an icebreaker, Ian. (By the way, how awesomely dated is the design on McKellan's official site? )

Serena Flaunts Ample Assets in Flirty Beach Photo Shoot

sexy serena on miami beachSerena may not have enjoyed turning 30-years old last year but the tennis champion is certainly making it look good. Williams was spotted on Miami beach showing off her girly, fun and flirty side posing up a storm in a high-waisted, monochrome bikini for an unknown photoshoot on Miami Beach, Florida on Monday. Other shots show the number one ranked Williams in a figure-hugging yellow mini-dress as she moved back from the beach to the greenery of the sandbacks.
She was also spotted wearing a stunning black maxi dress, which flattered her curves in all the right places.
On the topic of turning 30, Serena told reporters in Miami, “Last year or the year before I was turning 30 and I panicked and thought I needed to get a really old car. Yeah, that was like a couple years ago, I think – so it was my mid-life crisis.
“I don’t know why, but that was my reaction. It was really hard for me to turn 30. I really struggled, and I was just like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I don’t know why, but that’s what kind of came out of it. I have come to turns with being over 30 now, but getting there was really hard!”
Your 30s look good on you Serena!

Rihanna Suffers Backlash from Fans on Twitter Despite Apology

Rihanna Suffers Backlash from Fans on Twitter Despite Apology

Rihanna has canceled four tour dates thus far since launching her Diamonds World Tour on March 8th. Less than two weeks into the tour, the Bajan beauty canceled two tour stops reportedly due to laryngitis.
“BOSTON this is the hardest thing for me to deal with! I feel like we’ve been waiting on this day forever, and I’m hurt that I let you down. I hate disappointing people that never ever let me down!! I’m so embarrassed about this! Thank you for your prayers and well wishes!”
The apology appeared sincere enough and all was forgiven. Fast forward a few weeks later and RiRi is back to canceling tour stops.
This time her back to back shows in Dallas and Houston respectively were postponed at the last minute while Live Nation is urging tickhet holders to keep their ticket for a future unknown date. Speculation around the cancellation grew outrageous from pregnancy rumors to health concerns. Thanks to Rihanna remaining mum on Twitter and her management’s rather vague explanation.
On Tuesday however Rihanna surfaced exiting a medical building sucking on a lollipop with shades and cap covering her makeup less face. Later she blessed her fans a sad story.
“I was sick since San Diego! I kept working because I thought two days off after the Vegas show would be enough time to recover and I f****ed up, those were two days off from hell and today is not different!” she wrote on Instagram on April 15. “I’m sad and disappointed about it! I had all kinds of plans for Houston!”
Too little, too late it seems. The fans of the “Unapologetic” singer are growing tired.
‘You not sick you out having fun. How dare you plan a tour then forget your responsibilities!! You need to also be focused on your career. I paid good money for these tickets n they were a surprise for my lil sis 18th bday n now we can’t even go!! (sic).’
“Wtf really bitch u canceled another one of your fucking shows hoe you was just in Vegas like 2 days ago & now you claim youre sick @rihanna”
It is truly difficult to sell the sick card when you share photos of yourself partying and drinking. Get it together RiRi!

Jennifer Aniston on the red carpet

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson joined actress Jennifer Aniston on the red carpet of “Call me Crazy” premiere, a film which Aniston directed at the Pacific Design Center. Aniston is an executive producer behind the new film, which deals with the still stigmatized issue of mental health. The actress stuck with the classic black while also playing with the idea of a pantsuit. Oddly enough the strapless short-suit left the actress exposed from round remnants of a recent cupping treatment.
J-Hud flaunted her cleavage in a daring mix of prints while posing on the red carpet .
The in-demand starlet flashed a bit of her black bra under a leopard-print blouse tucked into a polka-dot mini-skirt.
In Call Me Crazy, which airs on Lifetime Television April 20, Hudson plays an Army soldier named Maggie suffering from mental illness.
Dolphin Tale actress Ashley Judd directed Jennifer in one of five of the female-centric mini-movies. Call Me Crazy has a stellar cast littered with names like Jennifer Hudson, Melissa Leo and Octavia Spencer, Sarah Hyland, Laura Dern, Brittany Snow, Melanie Griffith, Ashley Judd and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Laura Dern, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Bonnie Hunt also tackled chapters for Call Me Crazy while Oscar winner Melissa Leo, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, and Golden Globe winner Melanie Griffith also star in the upcoming movie-of-the-week.

Kim Kardashian to Lend Her Questionable Vocals to Kanye West’s New Album?

When  you think music, you don’t think Kim Kardashian. As a matter of fact, you may think Kim K now only because she’s forever linked to successful and often controversial rapper Kanye West. If we are to believe the folks over at Media Take Out (they have been right on some things), Mr. West is considering adding the vocals of his girlfriend/baby mother to his new album. Gosh, talk about true love.
Apparently, Kardashian will be warbling on the “intro or an interlude,” so we’ll probably only get a brief preview of her vocal chops-but in case you forgot, this isn’t her first time behind the mic. In 2011, she released “Jam (Turn It Up),” an abysmal track that was produced by the Dream and on Kim’s E! reality show “Kourtney and Kim Take New York.” Oddly enough, Mr. West actually joined her in the studio that day to give her some advice-way before they became a couple.
If The Dream who produced several songs on Beyonce’s ’4′ album and made a fortune from Rihanna’s super-hit ‘Umbrella’ couldn’t eek out a decent track with Kim K, it’s hard to believe, despite his enormous talent that Kanye will be different. Stranger things have happened. Yahoo StyleCaster is convinced Kim will likely shout things like “Saint Laurent! Givenchy!” in the background – can’t say we would be surprised.
