Daft Punk took home the Grammy for Album of the Year, and gave the shortest acceptance speech in history: zero words.

In fact, the electronic duo–decked out in their trademark shiny helmets, this time atop tuxedos–didn’t utter a single syllable despite winning five times at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. They instead farmed out that task out to collaborators including Pharrell Williams, who referred to them fondly as “the robots” and Nile Rodgers, who appeared in the Staples Center’s press room to give a statement on their behalf.
Music’s biggest night lived up to its name, punctuated by performances by the aforementioned robots and another by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis that culminated in an appearance by Madonna–and a mass wedding of 33 couples presided over by Queen Latifah.

The night featured performances by many more of the most talented names in music–and many of the top earners, sometimes one in the same–including a reunion of the last two living Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who played a new song from the former’s latest album.

McCartney popped by the press room afterward with former Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, with whom he shared an award for Best Rock Song for “Cut Me Some Slack.”

He summed up the mood of the night quite aptly: “It was magic for me, playing with these guys.”
