Lil Wayne admitted that the Nicki Minaj
feud with Mariah Carey on “American Idol” wasn’t enough to get him to
tune in to the show; in fact, it may be what’s keeping him away.
Lil Wayne has always supported the hip hop Barbie in all her
ventures, and while he does support her gig on “American Idol,” that
doesn’t mean he’s tuning in to watch it.
Don’t think the catfight itself made Weezy an ‘American Idol’ hater,
however. It turns out the 30-year-old rapper from New Orleans never was a
big fan of the singing competition.
“Actually, I’ve never watched it,” he said of “American Idol.”
He may not tune in to watch the show but he does respect the talent that the show often discovers.
“The talent on that is pretty good I heard, through,” he added.
As for taking a few minutes out of his day to see how his mentee is
as a TV personality, he claims that Minaj herself didn’t even sell the
idea to him.
“When I talk to her she always tells me, ‘You don’t wanna watch that, you’re not going to be into it,’” he explained.
In addition to being into the show itself, apparently the feud between judges wasn’t enough to attract Lil Wayne as a viewer.
“She knows me… It’s kind of like a catfight where they be going back
and forth type of thing, I’m not into all that,” the rapper turned
skater admitted.
As it turns out, much of America isn’t feeling the drama either and
if the battle of the divas was a publicity stunt it definitely backfired
for the show.
Many
“American Idol” viewers expressed their disappointment with the show
being so focused on the drama between judges rather than on the
contestants who were coming through the doors to audition.
In fact, the show’s main competitor “The Voice” may be able to credit
the chemistry and friendship between their judges to the shows
successful ratings.
Let’s face it, if people want to see drama they get more than enough
of it from “The Real Housewives” and the “Bad Girls Club,” but when they
gather their family together to watch “American Idol” they want to see
tear jerking success stories and hilariously terrible auditions… not two
grown women behaving as if they were in middle school.
Either way, Lil Wayne who has also deemed himself with the new
moniker Tunechi has been much too busy to spend his time watching
catfights on TV.
On Friday, Weezy was busy singing hundreds of autographs for adoring
fans at a Macy’s in New Orleans. The loyal fans gathered in the
department store for the launch of his Trukfit clothing line, which he
hopes to expand into women’s and children’s wear soon.
So far, the only problem is finding a woman designer who is okay with
Lil Wayne putting some of her designs on the chopping block.
“They send everything, every design to me, and I approve or decline,
and the designer is extremely OK [with that],” he said of the men
designers who have helped him create Trukfit. “That person may have
designed something, and I may say I hate it. I get no flack about it,
and women are different.”
The rapper couldn’t help but laugh after he prepared to point out the difficulties he faced with many of the women designers.
“So we’re trying to find the perfect female designer who has no problem with me declining what I don’t like,” he concluded.
In addition to getting his clothing line together, Weezy is still
working on his new album “I Am Not A Human Being II” which is set to
release at the end of March.
