Oprah Winfrey injured back picking up Tyler Perry's birthday giftSocial media erupted last night after the not guilty verdict was announced in the George Zimmerman murder trial. Supporters of both the murdered teenager Trayvon Martin and Zimmerman ascended on the networks with equal fervor.
Somewhere else in the world however, media mogul Oprah Winfrey decided to promote an upcoming show.
“Tweethearts, I know you’re going to LOVE #Herlarious with @iamwandasykes tonight. Get ready to LOL for REAL!”
Not suprinsingly, the less-than-perfectly timed tweet didn’t sit well with some of Oprah’s followers.
One follower, @therealpeela tweeted Lady O directly,
“Man @Oprah just pissed me right the hell off. How dare you tweet about some (expletive) show right now. yes I’m that pissed.”
Oprah responded the same evening,
“@therealpeela sorry didn’t know there ws a verdict. In another part of the world no t.v.”
With the ability to update her Twitter profile, it’s obvious a television isn’t necessary to remain up-to-date on current events – perhaps she had better things to concern herself with.
So just where is Oprah?
According to AllAfrica.com:
“Oprah Winfrey is touring Serengeti National Park for what is described as private excursion.
“‘The Butler‘ actress is reportedly going to be in or around the Serengeti National Park for the whole week starting this weekend.
“‘It is going to be Oprah’s private tour,’ admitted Mr. Paschal Shelutete,  public relations manager for Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) that manages Serengeti, the country’s second largest national park …[and] is also the most known.”
Her private excursion in the Serengeti, however, won’t prevent Oprah from meeting and holding talks with the Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Lazaro Nyalandu, who is also flying to Serengeti to welcome the pop-culture doyenne.
Should Oprah have shown more sensitivity to the case and her followers?
