Rihanna Addresses 777 Tour Controversy
Rih Rih explains why it was hard to please her guests during the extravagant promo run.
Rihanna took a gamble with her 777 tour last
week, inviting 150 journalists to accompany her on a seven-day trek to
perform in seven cities around the world. The stunt generated plenty of
publicity for the star, but not all of it was flattering. Many
journalists became vocally disenchanted with the endeavor due to
uncomfortable accommodations and a lack of face-time with Rihanna, who
only spoke to them briefly during the trip if at all. In a new interview
with Radio 1 in London, Rih Rih admitted that it was difficult to meet the demands of her traveling audience.
"It was different having to do your job but also have 200 guests come along with you," she said. "They all want you to host a party every time you get on the plane after a show but you really only have that time to sleep until you get to the next country ... Sometimes it was a two-hour ride to the next country and that was all the sleep you would get."
Despite the criticism, Rihanna, who released her seventh album, Unapologetic, last week, said she had to make tough choices and would do the tour over again if the opportunity arose.
"I knew I had seven countries and seven shows and I had to save my voice," she said. "I didn't go crazy. I didn't party too hard ... I did have fun though. I tried to get everybody involved but sometimes you just wish you could give more."
